Roger first came to the Isle of Man for beekeeping purposes in 2009, when he was invited to help assess and improve the Manx honey bees. He has visited several times since and has become well known to many of us. He is advising our Manx Bee Improvement Group (MBIG), a sub-committee of the […]
BIBBA Comes to the Isle of Man – in 1973
Whilst the Isle of Man is gearing up to welcome international visitors to the Bee Improvement and Bee Breeders Association Conference later this year – 20 to 22 September – at least one of our current members played a key role in the previous BIBBA Conference on the Isle of Man, held in June 1973!

Whether you – like me – are new to this fascinating hobby, […]
Roger is returning
When Roger Patterson last visited the Isle of Man at the beginning of May, he managed to visit eleven apiaries largely in the north of the island and assessed 54 honeybee colonies. This was pretty good going as out of the four days he was here, it bucketed down for one and a […]
A few weeks ago I discovered that beekeeping associations across the world have been invited to enter a Vita competition publicising work done in improving honeybee health.
The Vita Bee Initiative Awards will highlight the vital work of voluntary beekeeping groups to combat the ongoing health threats to honeybees and publicise good practice for the […]
Western Apiary Meeting has lots to interest the novice beekeeper
Saturday afternoon found Keith Osborn and your scribe at the beautiful rural setting Andy Scarlett chose to locate his beehives. It was like a “raid by the Southern” as we strode through the long grass from the carpark up the field to where the Apiary meeting was well on its way.
