During a discussion with IOM Bee Inspector Harry Owens and wife Audrey yesterday, Keith Osborn and I were privileged to be shown some of Harry’s extraordinary collection of beekeeping memorabilia.

With Harry’s permission, we will consider how best to display some of this cornucopia of fascinating documents and pictures in the future.

How it all started

Harry explains that his appointment in 1990 as Bee Inspector (officially at the time, “Beekeeping Adviser and Foul Brood Inspector”) came just after Herbie Quirk gave up the post. Herbie was the first Bee Inspector appointment by the Board of Agriculture, Harry the second.
