101286bd-83cb-4411-9d3f-76aff9f6620eAt the AGM of the IOM Beekeepers Federation held this afternoon at Knockaloe, Mrs Judith Cain graciously accepted the role of President of the Federation from outgoing President, Jerry Norton. In an emotional acceptance speech Mrs Cain undertook to devote her energies to the interests of the bees and the beekeepers of the Isle of Man.

The role of President is a revolving position, each of the three regional beekeeping associations in the Federation taking turns to propose one of their own for President. Mrs Cain, proposed by the Southern Beekeeping District, is clearly a very popular choice and received a warm welcome as she donned the formal Presidential Chain.

Other office bearers elected to serve the Federation were Mrs Pat Shimmin as Secretary – for the second time – and Harry Owens, as Treasurer – for the eleventh time! Harry also serves as the Isle of Man Bee Inspector and has had an influential role over the past decade working towards obtaining acceptance by the EU of the Island’s varroa free status, which culminated in iconic approval granted by the EU this past February.

Mrs Cain enjoyed a double celebration; today was her father’s 99th birthday!
